U2 set to play Glastonbury; Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Concert airs Sunday

While they will be well into the North American leg of their “360” world tour, that isn’t stopping U2 from being the headlining act on June 25th at the Glastonbury Festival in the UK.

Livedaily reports that this will be U2’s first time ever playing the gig, which is a six day music event at Worthy Farm in Pilton, England. As per Michael Eavis, the founder/director of the festival, “The 26-year-old rumor has finally come true. At last, the biggest band in the world are going to play the best festival in the world!”

Biggest band in the world? I like the way Mr. Eavis thinks!

U2’s manager Paul McGuinness echoes Eavis’s statement by adding, “The band is really looking forward to it.” At last summer’s Glastonbury, other major acts who appeared included Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and Neil Young.

I’m sure U2 will do a fantastic job. It would be interesting to see them perform in a festival setting instead of the massive in-the-round setup they are no doubt used to using during “360”. I really want to go out and get a passport so I can go to this event! I missed out on seeing them in Dublin for my birthday this year, so this might be the closest I get to seeing U2 in Europe!

And a reminder, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 4-hour colossal concert event will be airing on HBO this Sunday at 8pm EST (check your local listings so you don’t miss out). U2 performed on the second night, so I hope they aren’t at the end of the program when it airs. I don’t want to have to fast forward through so much material. I’m anxious to see how the performance went after hearing about it from people outside Madison Square Garden that night.

Yesterday was Thanksgiving and I hope everyone had a great holiday. This was a true U2 defining year for me- got to see them three times live, went to the U2 Conference in North Carolina, met new and amazing U2 friends, and started writing this webpage. I’m sure U2 will elevate me with happiness again in 2010. And if you haven’t read it yet, my thanks to U2 is here.
